A successful week with both the podcast and the contextualisation. I have finished the first draft of my podcast (woohoo!) Ready to be checked over by my peers this week to seek adjustments. By working in a professional studio sped up the whole process and was completed over 3 days. After recording the audio and adding in the interviews, i added copyright free music from YouTube which was placed in the background for 'emotional effect'. I spent a good hour looking for the right music without it being overly happy or too depressing.
Working alongside William (the guy who saved my ass with this podcast) has helped me understand more about different sound equipment compared to what I'm used too and learn more about how a recording studio works on a daily basis. Knowing William from high school made me feel more relaxed whilst recording and I was able to ask questions no matter how silly without feeling like I was being judged (even though he probably was).. We work well as a team and has said to me I can use his studio for future projects. Another professional contact added to the list, tick!
William also has built in surround sound which was pretty cool hearing my podcast come from all angles but the final piece was rendered for headphone use as audio podcasts are mostly listened too through earphones of some form.
“Sound speaks directly to the emotions…It seems to by-pass the intelligence and speak to something very deep and inborn…”
Guido Cavalcanti, (1990, p. 109)
Moving onto the contextualisation, I am now 1000 words from finishing the first draft. I am currently onto the last segment writing about how my podcast functions as a 'Practice Led-Research" as well as talking about about how I will go about the ethical issues involved as I am talking to vulnerable individuals within my interviews. Ethics is an ever-present concern for all researchers; it pervades every aspect of the research process from conception and design through to research practice and continues to require consideration during dissemination of the overall results”. (Goodwin et al, 2003, p.567-577).
I have decided to get a little bit creative and add a short video trailer for my website to promote my upcoming podcast which will feature segments of the riders. I aim for that excitment factor from the audience like a "wow I can't wait to listen to this".. (well that is what i hope for). I currently don't have the correct software but once again William has been a true gentleman and letting me use his Premiere Pro to work.
Next Steps - The last part of the contextualisation will talk about where does the podcast sit in relation to similar work? Where does it fit with the current cultural landscape? How will it be accessed / distributed? How will people find my website professionally (Guess this comes under the output section)... I will also be drafting up a short trailer for my podcast to go onto my website and social media pages.
I aim to have everything finished by early July (Trying not to be too ambitious but we will see!)
